On January 10, 1908, in Lima, New York, women interested in forming a chapter of the DAR met at the home of Mrs. T.M. Keating. On February 1 of that year, Ska-Hase-Ga-O Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was founded with Mary Warner as the first regent. The chapter was officially recorded on November 11, 1908, and the charter arrived on May 21, 1909. Since Lima stands on the site of an Indian village, the name chosen for the chapter, Ska-Hase-Ga-O, was taken from that tribe's language and means, "It was once a long creek." |
